How it works

Know the number, then spend with confidence.

The formula

Lifetime value is your average fee per visit times the average visits per client. Your practice software can report both.

The one-third rule

Keep the cost of winning a client under a third of their lifetime value. That leaves room for wages, rent and profit.

Small changes add up

Better rebooking and follow-up lift visits per client, and that lifts what you can afford to spend on marketing.

Should I use the full fee or just the gap?

Use the full fee your clinic receives per visit, including any Medicare, NDIS or health fund portion. That's the revenue each client brings in.

Where do I find my numbers?

Most practice management systems, like Cliniko, Nookal or Power Diary, can report revenue per appointment and average visits per client. Use the last 12 months.

Is lifetime value the same as profit?

No, it's revenue. That's why the one-third rule leaves two thirds for your costs and profit.
